Background: It is a known fact that chronic cigarette smoking, passive cigarette smoke exposure and even indoor air pollution resulting from biomass cooking or heating damages the respiratory system and causes pulmonary diseases include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Methods: This case control study conducted for 184 total cases. Out of 184 cases, 74 cases were included in control cases & 110 cases of COPD. This study was conducted in Department of Biochemistry. The duration of study was over a period of one year.
Results: This case- control study were included 184 total cases. Out of 184 cases, 48 cases of male & 26 cases of female in Control. Whereas in COPD cases 74 were male & 36 were female. We were found 52 mild, 42 moderate & 16 severe cases of COPD.
Conclusions: This study concludes that, elevated serum uric acid level may be a noninvasive indicator for COPD severity
