Knowledge and Attitude of Forensic Odontology among Medical Students

Background- Forensic odontology is a challenging and attractive branch of forensic science that includes the use of dental science in identifying deceased people by comparing pre- and post-mortem records.
Material and Methods- This is a cross sectional questionnaire-based study conducted among the Medical students of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, A.M.U, Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. A questionnaire was prepared consisting of multiple choice questions about Forensic Odontology. 100 individuals comprising of 50 males and 50 females participated in this study.
Results- In this cross sectional study, 100 medical students comprising of 50 males and 50 females participated. The questionnaire consisted of multiple choice questions about the Forensic Odontology. 91% of participants knew what forensic odontology is and they also knew that it is useful in identifying criminals and the dead people. Only 71% of participants were having knowledge about bite mark patterns of teeth
Conclusion- Periodic conferences and seminars if conducted would help students enrich their knowledge about forensic odontology.
